Kay was born and raised in Appleton, Wisconsin. After exploring theatre, dance, music, and writing, she finally succumbed to visual art and earned her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a focus in printmaking and photography. She currently works and resides in Madison, WI.
Kay's work suggests romanticism and nostalgia. There is a clear relationship created between not only the characters in her landscapes, but also the viewer and the landscape in both her 2D and 3D paperworks. The places and items Kay constructs recall everything from set design and natural history museums to cabinets of curiosity and menageries. Her attention to detail and mix of pattern and color reveal her love for women's traditional handcrafts and textiles, as well as the modern craft movement. In her free time, Kay is a Freelance Arts Writer for Madison Originals Magazine. Her most recent article features John Ribble, a plein air pastel artist. She is an Art Handler and Co-Manager at Ryan Myers Ceramics in Madison, WI and has work in the Wisconsin Arts Meriter Collection, Meriter Hospital, Madison, WI. |
